AI Analyst in Slack
Last updated: October 22, 2026
Ask AI Analyst portfolio questions from a direct message in Slack, then follow up in the same thread without repeating the company, metric, or earlier context. AI Analyst in Slack uses your Standard Metrics account and permissions, so it can only see the portfolio data you can already see in Standard Metrics.
New to AI Analyst? Start with the AI Analyst overview.
Before you start
AI Analyst must be enabled for your firm.
A firm admin must connect your firm's Slack workspace. This is a one-time setup.
The email on your Slack profile must match the email on your Standard Metrics account.
You must be an active member of your firm in Standard Metrics.
Not sure whether your firm has access? Contact your Customer Success Manager or support@standardmetrics.io.
Connect your Slack workspace (firm admins)
Only firm admins can see the Integrations tab and connect Slack.
In Standard Metrics, go to Settings → Integrations.
Select Connect Slack.
Review and approve the request in Slack. (Note: the person approving the request in Slack may need to be a Slack workspace admin or owner.)
Return to Standard Metrics. Your connected workspace now shows on the Integrations page.
Each Standard Metrics firm can connect one Slack workspace, and each Slack workspace can connect to one firm. A firm admin can disconnect the workspace at any time from Settings → Integrations.
Once the workspace is connected, anyone on your team who meets the requirements above can start using AI Analyst in Slack.
Ask AI Analyst a question
In Slack, open a direct message with AI Analyst.
Send your question as a new message. For example: "What is the latest revenue we have for [company]? Include the reporting period."
AI Analyst replies in a thread on your message. While it works, you'll see a status update, such as when it's looking up metrics.
To follow up, select Reply in thread and ask your next question. For example: "How does that compare with the previous period?" AI Analyst remembers the company, metric, and earlier answers in that thread.
Tips
Use one thread per topic. Each thread is its own conversation, and separate threads don't share context. To switch topics, send a new message instead of replying in an old thread.
Ask for dates and units. "Give me the latest revenue, burn, and runway for [company], with reporting dates and units."
Compare companies in a table. "Compare revenue, growth, burn, and runway for [company] and two other companies in a table."
Search the web. AI Analyst can search the web from Slack and include source links and publication dates. "Search the web for the latest news about [company]. Include sources and publication dates."
Permissions and privacy
AI Analyst in Slack follows your Standard Metrics permissions. It can only see the portfolio data you can see in Standard Metrics.
Access is checked every time AI Analyst handles a request. If your access changes in Standard Metrics, Slack follows the change. If you're removed from your firm, AI Analyst stops responding to you.
Each person's conversations are separate. AI Analyst doesn't carry one user's questions or context into another user's conversation.
If AI Analyst can't match your Slack email to an active Standard Metrics user in the connected firm, it won't respond.
Limitations
Direct messages only. AI Analyst doesn't read or answer questions in public channels, private channels, or group DMs. If you @-mention it in a channel, it replies in the thread and asks you to start a DM instead.
Separate conversation history. Slack conversations don't appear in your AI Analyst conversation list in Standard Metrics, and web conversations can't be continued in Slack.
No charts. If you ask for a chart, AI Analyst gives you the underlying data as a table or short summary. For charts, use AI Analyst in Standard Metrics.
No links to records. Answers don't link directly to the metrics or records they reference in Standard Metrics.
Length limit. Answers are formatted for Slack and capped at 12,000 characters. Anything longer gets cut off, so break big requests into smaller questions.
Edits and deletes aren't picked up. If you edit a question after sending it, AI Analyst won't answer the edited version. Send a new message instead. Deleting your question doesn't remove AI Analyst's reply.
